We walked through the foundational techniques of dragging the shutter while panning to keep subjects relatively sharp against a streaking, neon-blurred background. The workshop challenged photographers to stop freezing time and instead start conveying the raw speed and kinetic energy of the metropolis. We review some of the most striking student shots of the night—from speeding taxis rendered as rivers of yellow light to the ghostly, transient movements of late-night commuters fading into the shadowy subway entrances.
